CRUDE GLYCERINE (GLYCEROL)
By-Product of Biodiesel & Oleochemical Processes
Crude Glycerine (Crude Glycerol) is a by-product obtained from biodiesel and oleochemical industries. It typically contains 40–85% glycerol, along with water, methanol, salts, and organic residues. Its applications vary depending on purity and level of processing.
Key Applications
1. Animal Feed Industry
- Used as an energy source for cattle, poultry, and swine
- Acts as a glucose precursor, especially for dairy cattle
- Requires controlled inclusion due to impurities like methanol
2. Biogas / Energy Production
- Effective feedstock for biogas plants
- High COD helps increase methane yield
- Suitable for anaerobic digestion processes
3. Biodiesel & Chemical Processing
- Reused as a feedstock for refining into pure glycerine
- Converted into products such as:
- Refined glycerine (USP/Technical grade)
- Propylene glycol
- Epichlorohydrin
4. Boiler / Industrial Fuel
- Used as a low-cost industrial fuel
- Requires proper handling due to contaminants like salts and ash
5. Fertilizer & Composting
- Acts as a carbon source in composting
- Enhances microbial activity and decomposition
6. Textile & Leather Industry
- Used in low-grade applications such as softening and lubrication
- Suitable where high purity is not required
7. Dust Control / Road Treatment
- Used as a dust suppressant and binding agent
- Helps reduce airborne particles on roads
